Spring is a great time for knitting. After a long winter it’s nice to have a tactile project that doesn’t require a lot of brain power! Here is my newest project, a hat called Sweet Clover that my friend Carrie designed. She also dyed the yarn! You can purchase her patterns on her website, Vermont Yarn Company.

Portland, OR is winning big points on the colour blog this Spring. The colors in this photo (orange, purpley pink and spring green) remind me of a Timbuktu bag I designed years ago. And then there is the magenta in the background, and the dark grey of the pavement. Oh my! I just love this photo. Thank you for sending it in, Liese! xo C

I loved spending some time going through old pictures with my mom and grandmother this weekend. There are so many stories to hear. I love what a babe my mom is in this photo, and of course love that I’m wearing a homemade Marimekko dress on my 1st birthday. XO c

So…can you judge a book by its cover?

Let’s face it, those of us who are visually inclined people do it all the time. Artist Jaz Parkinson created new covers for some of the classics, by tallying specific color mentions throughout the book and then creating a color graph of sorts as the cover. Here is the cover for The Wizard of Oz. It’s quite fitting, with all that green and yellow.

I am back in Vermont after a week in New York City. It’s a truly amazing place to go for visual inspiration, from the fabric stores in the Garment District, to the flower district on West 28th Street, to the farmers and flea markets of Brooklyn. I soaked it all in, and had a lovely train ride home…
